I worked through it plus all the exercises and felt like a I had a grounding in most of the fundamentals. Books like David Black's “The Well Grounded Rubyist” and the Pickaxe 3 will provide people with much better learning tools for a modern Ruby than what we've had over the last couple years. Black's “The Well Grounded Rubyist”. It covers Rails, Ruby, Git, Heroku and a bunch of other stuff. Re: Personally, I like David A. I'm not sure how I made the leap to "Well-Grounded Rubyist", but Bach was definitely the starting point. The trail map said to go with Try Ruby, Learn Ruby the Hard Way, The Well-Grounded Rubyist, Ruby Koans, and Chapter 23-24 of the Pickaxe. I was inspired directly by "The Well-Tempered Clavier". The Well-Grounded Rubyist takes you from interested novice to proficient practitioner. I'm currently reading through The Well-Grounded Rubyist. Let's face it, OOP is just not appropriate for websites, large or small. The link is for Amazon, but unfortunately it “Usually ships within 1 to 2 months.” Holy Crap that is a long time!
